Elizabeth Streb has been called a “danger-monger,” the Evel Knievel of dance. She blends a choreographer’s passion for pure motion, a scientist’s impulse to harness invisible forces, a stuntwoman’s fearlessness, and a filmmaker’s instincts to spike an audience’s adrenaline. In Forces, this MacArthur Foundation “Genius” award-winning daredevil presents her biggest blockbuster yet. STREB’s nine “action engineers” court danger live onstage with acts of derring-do guaranteed to thrill audiences of any age. Marvel as these heroes grapple with gravity, wearing counterweights while climbing three-story walls. See them deftly dodge falling bowling balls and swiftly spinning steel beams. Watch them narrowly avoid bodies ejected by a giant mechanical machine known as the Whizzing Gizmo. In this exhilarating mix of dance, athletics, boxing, rodeo, circus, and stuntwork, there is no safety net. Set aside whatever traditional definition of dance you’ve heard. Forces is an action-packed spectacle of movement and muscle performed before your very eyes.

The presentation of STREB was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Day Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
